Every wildlife photographer needs reliable tools to capture, process, and store incredible moments in nature. I’ve put together a collection of my recommended gear, accessories and books in my Amazon Storefront.
There are, of course, many other great options out there. It doesn’t matter whether you have the latest gear or stick with old favourites like I often do; what matters most is spending time in nature, creating memories, and having fun along the way.
My Go-To Field Kit
These are the main items I use on almost every shoot:
Canon EOS R5 - My current main camera body, delivering exceptional image quality and fast autofocus that’s perfect for wildlife work.
Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM - My primary lens for distant wildlife, producing razor-sharp images with stunning background. (Shown with LensCoat lens cover)
Canon EF 100–400mm f/4.5–5.6L IS II USM - A versatile zoom I use when I need flexibility and can’t always predict my subject’s distance. A great lens for safaris.
Canon EF 1.4x III Extender - Extends the reach of my prime lenses while maintaining impressive image quality.
Canon EOS R6 Mark II - My second body, ideal for situations where I need to quickly switch between lenses without missing a moment.
Gitzo Adventury 45L Camera Backpack - A rugged, comfortable pack that’s carried my gear safely through countless field trips. (Discontinued)
